STUDENT LED CONFERENCE
Dear CIPS Families,
As many of you know, one of our biggest events of the year is coming up on Thursday, 24 October, 2019: Student-Led Conferences! There are some small changes this year that you should be aware of, both in how you sign-up for conferences and the format during that day. Signing up for a conference is now done online and the link to your child’s teachers for selecting a time slot are listed at the bottom. The times you can choose are in 30 minute periods, with up to 3 families per slot. After you follow the link:
As a reminder about Student-Led Conferences, this is your child’s opportunity to lead you through their learning journey from this academic year. The students will be showing their learning experiences with you to model, explain, and share what they have been learning and exploring throughout this year. This experience is your child’s day and it is not meant for parent-teacher interviews or conferences. Exploring your child’s learning journey can be done in their home language and it gives students the opportunity to show their evidence of learning through different ways. This day also involves your child bringing you to their different learning spaces around the school, like the PE field, music rooms, EAL class, French class, etc., to tell you about all the places their learning happens. There is no sign-up for this, but can happen before or after your scheduled conference time. Finally, it’s important to note that, during this day, students should only be at school for their conference time and learning tour, after which they will return back home. Students are expected to wear their school uniform and any/all family members are invited to share in their conference. During this day, students cannot be left unattended nor should they be arriving on the school buses. Food will be available in the canteen throughout the day. If you are unable to attend on the 24th, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss alternative arrangements.
We look forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, 24 October, 2019!

- Choose one time slot to sign up to in each of your children’s classes
- You will be asked to provide your email address
- Write your name in “Participant name”, # of spots should be “1”, and put your child’s name in “Student’s Name” box. There is no need to add your phone number
- Uncheck all the boxes below to avoid getting junk email
- Click “Save & Done” after which you will get a notification to your email verifying your conference time choice
- If you have any problems or questions about the conferences, please email your child’s teacher directly. If a time slot is full, we can’t move families or add another participant to that time
- You can log back in at any time to change your conference time

Welcome back for the 3rd term
Monday 19.08.19
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the last term of the year. We hope that children have been able to have some rest as well as spend quality time with family members. This term will be quite full as there are many events planned namely Peace Day on 20.09, the Sports Day on 01.10, and the Student Led Conferencing and Art exhibition on the 24.10.
Our first unit for this term will be Children’s rights which falls under the organising theme” Who we are” and the Central idea is “Children's access to their rights varies worldwide.” In this unit, learners will be inquiring into:
The learners will end this unit with the summative assessment that will consist of an assembly in the form of the model United Nation sitting where pairs of learners will act as representatives of different countries. They will explain what the situation of children’s rights is in their country, the weaknesses with these rights and what is being done to improve the situation. In the end, the assembly will vote resolutions that will help most countries to take a step further in safeguarding children’s rights. This assembly will take place on the Student Led Conference Day and all parents will be invited to attend. Each class will hold its assembly at different times and after attending the assembly, parents will have some time to go through their child’s portfolio together with him/her.
In Maths, learners will continue to work on Fractions and this term they will be addressing conversion of mixed numbers to improper fraction and vice versa. They will also deal with division problems involving multiple digits. Since percentage is another way to write fractions, learners will inquire into converting fractions to percentage.
In Reading, learners will be attending to class reading sessions of a novel, “The Breadwinner” by Deborah Ellis which is the novel linked to their unit of inquiry. They will have the opportunity to keep a diary of the events affecting the character in this novel as well as react to the plot of the story. Finally, they will write informative texts reflecting their understanding of the unit.
